James C. Mullen is the former President and Chief Executive Officer of Biogen Idec and served in these positions from November 2003 to June 2010. Mr. Mullen joined Biogen Inc. in 1989. He was named Chief Executive Officer in 2000 and Chairman in 2002. Prior to being named CEO and Chairman, he also held the positions of President and Chief Operating Officer (1999-2000); Vice President, International (1996-1999); Vice President, Operations (1992-1996); and Director, Facilities and Engineering (1989-1992). Mr. Mullen is a member of the Board of Directors of PerkinElmer Inc. and the Biomedical Science Careers Program Inc. He holds a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and an M.B.A. from Villanova University.
